It's Time to Heal Our Suffering World
World problems are difficult to contemplate, but we need to take action together
Whether we realize it or not, we are all part of one world community. We all depend on the Earth, our home, for survival. If the Earth doesn’t survive, then we don’t survive either. We are all interdependent. Humans need each other for survival, too.
Even though we know on a deeper level that our world is struggling, it can be difficult to become engaged with social justice issues. We may not know where to start. If you want to become involved with a cause, it can be difficult to know which one. Or, we may be struggling in our own lives and not feel like we have the bandwidth to take on more.
Care for yourself.
Right now, many people in our society are stuck living in survival mode. Sometimes, just making it through the day can seem like an insurmountable feat. This can be especially true if you have mental health issues. We may be suffering from compassion fatigue as well. There is so much going on in the world that we don’t know where to start.
If you have mental health issues, or are dealing with the effects of chronic stress, it is important to care for yourself first. When you c an find healing for yourself, then you can begin to look at wider issues as well. An important first step towards caring for yourself is to find a therapist. They will be able to help you learn coping skills for what you are going through, and provide you with a compassionate listening ear.
In addition to going to therapy, it can be extremely beneficial to take some time for self-care each day. I cannot say this enough times: Caring for yourself isn’t selfish. It is one of the most critical things that we can do in life. If you are feeling depleted, there is no way that you can meet your responsibilities, much less care for anyone else.
Making time to care for your mental, physical and spiritual health is critical! In my ebook, “Happy. Healthy. Rich. The smart mom’s guide to living your best life.” I talk about all different ways to care for your health in order to become your best self. Healing our own struggles is key to creating space inside ourselves and our lives to begin thinking about larger issues.
Caring for the world.
Once you are able to feel better on a personal level, get out of survival mode, and work through compassion fatigue, you will be at a space where you are able to begin giving back.
It is the responsibility of everyone to heal the things that are broken in our world. We can do this by taking civic action on issues like climate change. This is probably the biggest issue that is facing our world right now, and it is key for the world to unite on this issue to ensure the future of humanity.
Although we have known that climate change is a problem since the 1970’s, not enough action has been taken worldwide to stop the climate from warming. We are reaching a critical level today. If drastic action isn’t taken in the next 10 years at a world level, then catastrophic events are likely to happen at a wider scale.
In order for us to come together as a one world society to be able to fight against the catastrophic issues facing us today, it is important for each one of us to cultivate compassion in our hearts. By finding loving-kindness inside ourselves for everyone in our world, we can help to bring about the world healing and peace that is so desperately needed today.
As we begin to find a deeper sense of compassion for those around the world, we can become engaged in supporting charitable causes, volunteering, and getting involved in political action. When we do these things, we are helping others in our community and in the world to live better lives. As we do our best to raise the standard of living for those suffering the most, the whole world rises.
In addition to the world crisis of climate change, we also need to use our compassion to help those who are struggling in poverty worldwide. Helping those in need creates a better world for everyone. We can speak to our elected representatives about instituting programs like Universal Basic Income, which would lift many out of poverty.
There are many other worthwhile causes to support both locally and worldwide. I try to mention these causes here in my newsletter as we have awareness days and months to represent some of these causes. I hope you all find the information helpful, as you decide which causes are the most important to you personally.
If we all work together to cultivate compassion in our hearts, we can create a better society and a better world. It takes all of us working together, one day at a time, to bring world healing.
To learn more about cultivating compassion through spirituality, you can check out my new ebook “Compassion is the Ultimate Goal of Spirituality.”
I wish you all much love and blessings. I hope that your life is so overflowing with abundance that you have much to share with those in the world who are still suffering. May peace be with you always.
All my best,
Nicole Dake
