Podcast Appearance: Talking Motherhood, Self Compassion and Trauma Recovery
Come check out this wonderful conversation with Kylie Van Gelder of Mama Needs More
This week, I was so lucky to be able to participate in a podcast episode with Kylie Van Gelder of Mama Needs More. We talked about all things motherhood, self compassion and trauma recovery. We also discussed how important it is to prioritize your mental health as a mom, so that you can be your best self for your kids.
As mothers, many times we have a tendency to neglect our own needs thinking that it is ‘noble’ or simply necessary. We live in an age when our villages have grown progressively smaller, and women are expected to be superwomen just to make it through the day.
Not only do we have to parent and take care of the home, most of us also have full-time jobs as well. In order to juggle all of the hats we wear, we often put our own needs to the back burner. We forget about self-care, neglect our health, and let ourselves go.
While this may get us through the day in the short-term, in the long run it can lead to burnout. If you don’t take time to rest before you get to that point, your physical and mental health will eventually force you to rest through the appearance of stress related illnesses.
When you prioritize yourself and your wellbeing, it makes you happier, healthier and more well rounded. This can benefit your physical and mental health, your parenting, your ability to cope with stress, and other relationships in your life.
In my ebook Happy. Healthy. Rich. The smart mom’s guide to living your best life, I talk about how you can reduce stress and improve your life by incorporating wellness behaviors. Self care isn’t selfish - in fact, it is key to maintaining balance in a busy schedule.
When my therapist first told me to take time for self-care, I thought it seemed annoying and like just another thing to add to my to-do list. But, if you see yourself and your health as your most valuable resource, eventually you will be able to build a beautiful life for yourself and your family.
I hope you take time this weekend to listen to the podcast with Kylie! Then, let me know what you think in the comments!
Have a great weekend,
