As a mom, it can be easy to lose yourself to parenthood. I have been feeling a bit that way lately, since my little daughter, River, is getting more independent.
I have been realizing more and more that I am constantly on high alert for her needs, even though she doesn’t need anything most of the time anymore, unless it is something to eat.
At 6 years old now, she is capable of doing so much more on her own, and I have more time to myself to pursue things that I want to do. We are actually getting to watch adult shows on TV for the first time in years and it is SO weird.
If you feel like you have lost yourself to motherhood too, I wrote about it on my blog this morning with some tips to take your life back.
This is something that is still a work in progress for me now. Seeing my oldest, Atlantis, living on her own as an adult is a turning point. So is seeing River getting more independent.
In light of this, I have more time to myself, and I am going to be focusing more this year on my writing, on self-care, and on cultivating new friendships here in Germany.
Let me know what you think in the comments! Is this something you have gone through too? How did you deal with your kids getting older and not needing you so much?
I don’t want to become a helicopter parent with River. I wasn’t with Atlantis. I just need to remember what it is like to only have older kids instead of a toddler or a baby. I am looking forward to all the free time I am going to have with River in Kindergarten finally!
Have a great day,
